Don’t expect to see his smiling face at the breakfast table. But there will be large shoes in the middle of the floor, after he came home at 4 am from a night out with his high school friends.
In retrospect, telling him “Don’t stay out too late, since Grandma and Grandpa will want to see you awake tomorrow” was clearly not a precise enough curfew. Especially since it was his first opportunity to borrow the car after becoming old enough to drive legally all night long. And since, by the end of the night, he’d forgotten that Grandma and Grandpa were only coming down for the day, and not staying overnight.
On the plus side, at least he came home. Our neighbors across the street have 2 kids home from college, and there was a steady stream of cars at their house all night long. One is still there this morning.
And at least by the time M does wake up, it won’t matter how much hot water he uses for his shower. E and I will both have showered, and washed all the dishes from Thanksgiving cooking prep.
But any sausage leftover from making the stuffing won’t still be warm. Mmm, sausage…
