Woohoo for Wisconsin! A court ruling came out yesterday in support of equal marriage rights, and congratulations to the dozens of couples who began getting married last night. Also of note, a lawsuit has been filed opposing North Dakota’s gay marriage ban, which means there is now an active court challenge in every state which does not yet have marriage equality.
50.6% of people live in places where same-sex married couples have all the same state and federal rights as opposite-sex married couples (past the 50% mark!)
2.5% of people live in places where civil unions or domestic partnerships offer state-level rights only.
46.9% of people live in places which do not offer any mechanism for gay and lesbian couples to obtain legal recognition of their relationships.
