Last night M passed his Board of Review, and is now an Eagle Scout! We don’t yet know when the ceremony will be, but he has officially earned the rank. He is thrilled, and we’re very proud of him.
He finished his Eagle project back in April, building benches for a local wildlife refuge. It took him another 2 months to write up the project and put together his entire application (which includes records of the badges he earned, troop positions he has held, a personal statement, various signatures from troop leaders, 6 letters of recommendation, etc.) It took another 2 months before Council approved the application and scheduled the Board of Review. After all that waiting, last night’s Board of Review – which is an hour-long interview with 6 adults, both from his troop and from the council, half of whom he didn’t know – was somewhat nerve-wracking at first, but then he felt like he calmed down and answered everything well. They discussed his Scouting experiences, other volunteer work he has done, and other topics which had come up from his references. There were also some truly random questions, like “If you could interview any person from history, living or dead, real or imaginary, who would it be, and why?” (He answered “Jesus.”)
When E and I picked M up after his Board of Review, he looked an inch taller than when we dropped him off, he was so happy. As well he should be. Congratulations M, you did it!
