My church has a time in its worship service called “Joys and Concerns,” when people in the congregation can lift up whatever they’re concerned about so everyone can pray for them. This was what I said today:
“This coming week, the Supreme Court is scheduled to announce decisions in several important cases, including the gay marriage cases. This coming week also happens to be my third wedding anniversary. I know that nothing the Supreme Court decides can affect the promises that E and I made to each other, and that [our pastor’s name] has blessed. But I also know that we’re among more than 100,000 families in our country who would have greater security if those promises were also recognized by our country. So I ask for prayers for a Supreme Court decision that brings equality and justice.”
Amen.
