S here. Yesterday M and I went to the library and then the grocery store. When we got home, M carried the bag of library books into the kitchen. He set the book he was reading down on the kitchen table. Then he came back out to the car to help me carry in the groceries.
This might not seem so astounding, except that I have prodded and nagged him through every step of this process pretty much every weekend for the last 3 years. Yesterday, he did it all spontaneously without one word from me.
Hallelujah!
I suppose it was this recent evidence of maturity that prompted me today to agree that he and his buddy could head over to the neighborhood pond by themselves. They wanted to scout out locations for filming a movie they’re planning on making. I wasn’t daft enough to let them take the video camera, though.
It should be quite the movie. M’s friend said, “The script needs to be 700 pages long, but I’m not much of a writer.” M replied, “I’ll help you write it,” then he got out a stack of post-it notes and started writing. I guess it’s easier to come up with 700 pages if you do it on post-it notes.
