Or you could teach him cued speech! Mom always claims my speech is more clear after I’ve been practicing. At the very least you could introduce him to CS or deliberate phonics to really focus on making the proper meaningful sound units.

It might manifest itself as saying something you already know in a really distinct way, but in the learning stages, CS will slow the speech down if done with good synchrony. I now use my memorized things to practice speed and the new ones to practice being open to new combinations.

I know it’s my own fault, but I was skimming LJ while on the phone with someone who didn’t take my hint that I wanted to end the call; and your post nearly made me giggle aloud, which would have served me right.

Then I read it properly when I was off the phone, and I *did* giggle aloud.

Teenagers are a riot sometimes.

Joanna, thanks for the link to Alice’s blog. M and I both enjoyed seeing a bit of the inside of a preteen girls’ head, and it’s funny how similar she is to our neighbor girl here. (Oh, and M agrees with Alice that school bathrooms are just as gross here as there! Though he wasn’t quite up to commenting on her blog to say so.)
