E here and check out the pics below. Last week I was walking back to my office after getting coffee and ran into two turkeys! They were walking around a parking lot and eating from a patch of grass. I work in a large city but there are some woodlands and ponds across the street from [...]

We have a shed!

Hello, E here with big news. Our shed was delivered last Friday and we love it. It was amazing watching the delivery guys put it together. They pulled a huge flatbed truck into the driveway around 10am and 3 guys had the shed completed 90 minutes later. Talk about efficient! Here are some pics of Brokeback Shed [...]
Nothing says “Happy Father’s Day” ….

like a centerpiece made out of construction paper, car stickers, pictures cut out of Sports Illustrated, pipe cleaners, markers, and a styrofoam cup. Right?
S here; the soup kitchen that M and I volunteer at wanted some extra help with a couple projects for Father’s Day, so I’ve recruited the Sunday School kids at church. [...]
Some political analysis

S here, with my analysis of the Clinton/Obama race from a political math geek perspective that I haven’t seen anywhere in the news.
If you look at this nice summary of data at the NY Times, there are 408 delegates up for grabs in the remaining primaries. Depending on whether you use the [...]
Romantic weekend away, take 2

S here. Last time that E and I attempted to plan a romantic weekend away, E wound up having her appendix out instead. And while I can say a lot of nice things about how gay-friendly the hospital was, and that I don’t think I’ve ever found E more beautiful than when I [...]
Signs that puberty education has struck your house

M was very nervous about what would happen in today’s puberty ed session at school, since they’d be splitting up the boys and girls. Turns out the boys talked about “circumscription” and erections and got a sample-size stick of deodorant, which M found interesting enough that it clearly has to hang out in the [...]

It’s the Lone Daffodil — like the Lone Ranger, but with a yellow tutu — plus some vinca.

E here and posted below is a funny conversation between one of my friends and her 5 1/2 year old daughter, A. They are the Canadian family that I talked about in the snow pictures earlier this month and they’ve met M and S.
A – “Why does Auntie E live alone?”
A’s Mom – “Because she likes to [...]
Busy day in 5th grade

S: “So how was school today? Did you start puberty education?”
M: “Yeah. It was so embarrassing, having a woman as the teacher. And I really wonder where they got the diagrams of people’s privates.”
S: “So did you learn anything?”
M: “I learned that the vas deferens connects the urethra to the bladder.”
S: “Um, not exactly. [...]
Depression warning signs in hamsters

Our surviving hamster N is really missing his buddy. He’s spent most of the day doing the hamster equivalent of, “I’m so depressed that I just want to lie in bed with all the covers over my head, but I’m too depressed to even get my entire body into bed first.” I have never seen [...]
